Market Square Moves Temporarily

The market at Sanderilla Market Square has been temporarily moved to the area between Emancipation Garden and Vendor’s Plaza starting Saturday.

Agriculture Commissioner Louis Petersen Jr. said the relocation was necessary in light of the continuing reconstruction at Market Square. "It isn’t safe now, with all the construction. The farmers have too little room to set up," he said.

He also stressed it isn’t safe for farmers or customers. The area now is fraught with the detritus of construction equipment and uneven pavement making it almost impossible to navigate for farmers and customers.

Petersen said in a release Friday, "The temporary relocation is in place while Market Square undergoes reconstruction. The anticipated time frame for the completion of this phase of the project is early November. Vendors will be able to return to Market Square on November 15, 2012 – a date that has been determined in cooperation with the Department of Public Works."

Petersen added an apology to the farming community and the general public for the inconvenience.
