USVI BIR Director Elected to Head Tax Administration Association

Marvin L. Pickering, EA, PHR, director of the Virgin Islands Bureau of Internal Revenue, has been elected to serve as the president of the All Islands Tax Administrators Association (AITAA), for a one- year term. This organization is comprised of the tax leaders of all of the United States territories. The association met this year from Aug. 25-27, at its annual conference in Washington, D.C., which was funded by the U.S. Department of Interior and hosted by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Each year, the AITAA brings together tax leaders from across the U.S. Territories, the IRS and other federal agencies to discuss current tax administration and enforcement issues. This year, U.S. territory delegates in attendance included tax directors and leaders from American Samoa, Guam, U.S. Virgin Islands and the Marshall Islands. Delegates from Puerto Rico, Palau, Mariana Islands and Micronesia were unable to attend. The AITAA conference covered a wide array of tax issues, such as safeguard matters and treasury inspector general updates. Other topics focused on improving tax administration and enforcement across all jurisdictions.
