It is with deep sadness, the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce recognizes the passing of Mulo Alwani, a community and business leader. Mulo has been an integral part of the U.S. Virgin Islands for more than 40 years. Actively involved in many organizations, he was a long-time member of the Board of Directors of the St. Thomas-St. John Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the India Association, a past master of Harmonic Lodge No. 356 E, a past district governor of Rotary International District 7020, a member of the Board of Directors of Partner’s for Health and a member of the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands.
Mulo and his family have owned and operated businesses in Jamaica, St. Martin and the U.S. Virgin Islands, but he made St. Thomas his home. In 1995 he was awarded the Wilbur “Bill” LaMotta Community Service Award by the Chamber, recognizing his outstanding contributions in the Virgin Islands. In 2014, he received the Peacemaker Award from the Family Resource Center for his passion and care of others, exemplifying the essence of a peacemaker.
“Mulo’s quiet strength and dedicated service took us through four decades. He cared about our community and worked diligently to make it a better place to live. Mulo was a critical member of the Chamber board, always looking for ways to build bridges and work together for the good of all involved. He will be greatly missed by his fellow Chamber board members, the membership and especially the staff of the Chamber," said Chamber Executive Director Joe Aubain.
