It’s not too late for runners who love the longer distances to get ready for three different races conducted to accommodate some seriously committed Danish runners who run full-length (26.2 mile) marathons everywhere they travel. They’ll run on St. Thomas one weekend (March 5), on St. John mid-week (March 9) and on St. Croix the next weekend (March 12).
All three events will feature a 26.2-mile (42K) full marathon, a half-marathon and a 10K (6.2 miles). To avoid the heat and intense sun, the full marathon will start at 5 a.m., the half at 6 a.m. and the 10K at 7 a.m. Local runners are invited to run any of the distances and encouraged to take advantage of a unique running opportunity.
The St. Thomas course will start near Mandella Circle. For the St. John races, a ferry transporting participants will leave Charlotte Amalie at 4 a.m. That race will start in Fortsberg, Coral Bay. The St. Croix races will start at Fort Christianvern.
The Denmark-Virgin Islands Transfer Marathon is organized by Virgin Islands PACE and assisted by the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners (STAR). Volunteers are needed. The event webpage provides information and registration:
