VING to Conduct Symposiums on Officer Career Opportunities

The Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) will conduct two symposiums throughout the territory to share information on careers for military officers. On St. Thomas, the VING Officer Symposium will be held on Friday, March 3, at the Sergeant First Class Leonard B. Francis Readiness Center (armory) in Estate Nazareth. On St. Croix, the VING Officer Symposium will be held on Friday, March 17, at the Joint Force Headquarters Building, Room 150, in Estate Bethlehem. Both events take place from 3-7 p.m. The symposium is open to anyone interested in information on becoming a military officer.

The symposium will cover basic branch officer information including the Reserved Officer Training Corp (ROTC) and Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). In addition, there will be presentations on the Warrant Officer Branch and special career areas like Army Aviation Army Medical.

Currently, VING is seeking officer candidates to fill positions in its ranks, including legal and medical professionals. The criteria for becoming an officer requires a minimum of 90 college credits or a college degree. “Anyone can attend our symposium and get information,” said Capt. Josephine Hector-Murphy, V.I. Army National Guard officer strength manager. “We are seeking professionals to join our force and become leaders in the V.I. National Guard.”

For more information on the symposium and career opportunities for officers, contact Capt. Josephine Hector-Murphy at 712-8073 or 690-8218 or e-mail josephine.hectormurphy.mil@mail.mil.
