The V.I. Department of Human Services Commissioner Designee Felicia Blyden has announced that the Office of Child Care and Regulatory Services will be conducting a mass consultation for summer camps throughout the territory.
“We understand the importance of children receiving well-rounded experiences while attending summer camps. Camps are structured differently and offer curricula based on specific goals they seek to achieve. However, we must ensure that summer camps meet the required standards upon enrollment of our children,” said Blyden.
Child Care and Regulatory Services will host the consultation on two separate days. Both consultations will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. It will be held on St. Croix on Tuesday, March 21, at the District Court in Golden Rock. On St. Thomas, it will take place on Wednesday, March 22, at the DHS’ Knud Hansen Complex.
Among the agencies participating in the consultation are the Department of Natural Resources (DPNR), Fire Services and the Department of Health. They will cover communicable disease, environmental health on sanitation and Education’s Child Nutrition Program.
“As the licensing entity, I am encouraging all childcare and after-school centers, residential homes, and kids’ clubs to come and join us so as to better comply with licensing requirements. The health and safety of our young children remains paramount in our collective responsibilities to ensure they have a rewarding summer,” said the commissioner designee.
