Police Arrest Suspect in Cruz Bay Restaurant Burglaries

The V.I. Police Department on Thursday arrested Malik Cheatham, a 66-year-old Solberg man suspected in the burglary of two Cruz Bay restaurants in April.

According to police, at about 9:30 a.m. April 4 police learned that a burglary had occurred at Wharfside Bistro Restaurant in Wharfside Village in Cruz Bay. The suspect had entered the restaurant when it was closed and broke into the refrigerator, stealing more than $1,000 worth of alcohol.

Tuesday police were told that a second burglary had occurred at Hightide Restaurant in Cruz Bay. The burglar took food, liquor, sodas and an IPod.

Investigation into the two cases revealed Cheatham as the suspect.

Cheatham was located at approximately 4:40 p.m. Thursday on St. John. He was placed under arrest and charged with third-degree burglary and trespassing. Unable to post bail, he was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections pending an advice of rights hearing.
