Labor Begins 2017 Summer Youth Employment and Training Program

The V.I. Department of Labor (DOL) has begun accepting and processing Summer Youth Employment applications for the 2017 Summer Youth Work Experience and Training Program. While applications continue to be received throughout the year for other programs and activities, young people are strongly encouraged to submit their applications for summer experiences by June 16, according to a press release from DOL.

All “In and Out of School” youths between the age 14 to 25 are invited to register for the approximately 650 available slots; 14 and 15-year-old youths are eligible for the Career Exploration program. Applications may be obtained as well as submitted electronically through Labor’s Web site at http://www.vidol.gov/form_management.php. They can also be picked up at any of the Department of Labor office locations on St. Croix and St. Thomas. St. John residents may pick up registration forms at the St. John Administrator’s Office.

A Summer Employment Fact Sheet is also available online, providing additional information for participants and parents.  This summer, priority will be given to individuals who submit completed applications accompanied with supporting documents and have not previously participated in a work experience. They must be high school juniors or seniors or be Out-of-School/unemployed or dislocated youth.

Young people under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent/guardian to sign an authorization for participation in the program. All applicants should be prepared to provide:

  1. a) proof of their educational and legal residency status
  2. b) proof of enrollment in college, high school
  3. c) evidence of a social security card
  4. d) Photo ID and copy of a resume if available.
