The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Virgin Islands Board of Education (VIBE) encourage schools and learning communities to celebrate April 24-28 as the Week of the Young Child.
WInona A. Hendricks, VIBE chair, said, “Our youngest learners, their teachers and families need exciting, creative and multi-sensory activities: to develop their ability to think, read, count and learn about their surroundings, especially during Carnival Week.”
Carnival Week is coincidentally the Week of the Young Child, so the VIBE members urge the community to adopt and support public education by celebrating in the following way:
Monday — sing, dance, celebrate and learn
Tuesday — be safe and supervised for all carnival activities
Wednesday – eat healthy at home and at the food fair
Thursday — get lots of rest for parade days
Friday — join a school troupe or name characters, themes and ideas in the Children ‘s parade
Saturday — wear your best smile to end the Young Learners Week.
