Sign-up Deadline for Police Officer or Corrections Officer Entrance Exams Is August 18

Division of Personnel of the Government of the Virgin Islands

The Division of Personnel has announced testing territory-wide for those who want to become police officers or corrections officers. Qualifications to sit for the exam:

 
   

A candidate must have completed grade 12 or possess an equivalency certificate; a candidate must also possess or be able to obtain a Motor Vehicle Operator’s License;

candidates must be a U.S. citizen at least 20 years of age and not have reached his/her 46th birthday; candidates must successfully pass: a Civil Service written examination, physical agility test, psychological exam, oral board interview and a comprehensive background check. Sign up deadline is Aug. 18. The testing dates are Sept. 18-22.

All interested candidates must sign-up and submit a completed application package online at www.dopusvi.org (click on the careers tab). The application deadline is 11:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18.

Candidates who have submitted an application prior to now are required to notify the Division of Personnel of any changes in their mailing address to ensure receipt of confirmed examination notice.

A Candidate Preparation Manual for the police officer written examination will be distributed during the week of Aug. 21-25. Online practice tests that simulate the full- length version of the exam are now available for a minimal fee.

The following candidates will be exempted from sitting the written examination, but are required to meet all other established criteria for qualification.

  • Persons holding a degree in any field of study (associates and above) from an accredited institution
  • All honorably discharged veterans from any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (DD214)
  • *National Guardsmen/Air Guard Reserve serving in specialized Military Police (MP) unit for at least two years in good standing
  • *Current/former police cadets who successfully completed established police cadet curriculum along with written verification from VIPD officials.
