St. John Film Society Presents Free Film on Dec. 7
The St. John Film Society’s free film series continues with an excellent line up this winter. The season will begin with “Playing for Change: Peace Through Music” by Mark Johnson and Johnathan Walls (83min) 2009 at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at Sputnik's in Coral Bay. Come before the show at 6 p.m. for a pot luck dinner and raffle. Raffle tickets will be sold at the door: $5 each or 5 for $20. Proceeds will help the film society to continue the free film series. Anyone planning to bring a pot luck dish, please contact Rea at info@stjohnfilm.com or call 776-6644 to sign up. Chairs will be provided, although seating will be limited. St. John Film recommends that everyone arrive early and bring a cushion to put in his or her seat. It is also recommended that those who plan to arrive late bring their own beach chairs.
“Playing for Change: Peace Through Music” -- In a story of hope, struggle, perseverance and joy, the Playing For Change team traveled the globe with a single-minded passion to connect the world through music. Their ambitious journey took them from post-apartheid South Africa through the ancient sites of the Middle East to the remote beauty of the Himalayas and beyond. Along the way, they filmed and recorded more than 100 musicians, largely outdoors in parks, plazas and promenades, in doorways, on cobblestone streets and amid hilly pueblos. Each captured performance creates a new mix in which the artists are essentially all performing together, albeit hundreds or thousands of miles apart. This is the story of an unparalleled international musical collaboration and its remarkable power of redemption.
