St. John School of the Arts Presents New York Empire Trio

St. John School of the Arts will present the New York Empire Trio, which includes soloists and accomplished chamber musicians: Kalin Ivanov on cello, Entcho Todorov on violin and Margrit Zimmermann on piano, at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 22. Each member of this group has been the recipient of distinguished awards and has traveled in the United States and abroad.
Ivanov has been compared to Yo-Yo Ma, Rostropovich and Jacqueline du Pré.  He is a prominent soloist, chamber musician and recording artist performing in major centers in Europe and the United States.
Todorov’s career is extensive from Broadway shows such as “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” (2010) to “Fiddler on the Roof” to the Oscar- winning soundtrack from the movie “Precious” (2009). He is the featured violinist for the Grammy-award winner Esperanza Splading, and he has recorded for Kelly Clarkson, Joan Osborne and Evanescence.
Zimmermann’s artistry represents the best traditions of European and Russian piano schools. Her studies were completed at the world-renowned Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow with Dmitiri Bashkirov and master courses from Lev Naumov, Vera Gornostaeva and Vadim Sukhanov.
Their repertoire ranges from the early classics to the music of today, performing standard chamber music literature and little known masterworks with great success.   After the group’s debut performance at Carnegie Hall, they were chosen to be Featured Artists of the Month at the Obama for the Arts and Entertainment Organization.
Tickets are $30 and are available at Connections and St. John School of the Arts.  For more information, call 779-4322. St. John School of the Arts: 779-4322 www.stjohnschoolofthearts.org
