News Brief: VINP to Hold Registration for Hurricane Hole Storm Refuge

May 30, 2005 – Virgin Islands Nation Park Superintendent Art Frederick has announced that registration for storm refuge in Hurricane Hole will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 4.
Registration will take place at the VINP Maintenance Facility Multi-Purpose Room, second floor, just past Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay. While limited parking is available on either side of the lot leading to the building, only government vehicles are allowed to park at the actual building.
A National Park release notes that for 2005, only a portion of the storm chain mooring system is in place. The system is designed for vessels not exceeding 60 feet (length on deck). Vessels larger than 60 feet or for those planning to use areas without storm chain may also register at this time.
The following registration guidelines shall apply:
Vessel owners will be processed on a 'first come, first served' basis beginning at 10 a.m. Vessel owners must have the following information for their vessel: name, length, beam, draft and vessel registration or documentation number. An application form will be provided that can be filled out while waiting to be called. For 2005, storm refuge permits are free.

A vessel owner who is unable to attend the registration may select another person as proxy to register their vessel. Written permission must be provided during registration and must specify the owner, vessel and proxy names. All previously listed information on the vessel must also be provided for the application. Persons registering vessels as proxy will be processed by the order in which they sign-in, beginning at 10 a.m., but not until all persons registering their own vessels have been processed.
