Summer Camps and Programs for St. Thomas and St. John Young People

Here is a list of summer camps and organized activities available for children or young people. Please send information on your camps and activities to offer parents a variety of choices. Please e-mail information to visource@gmail.com
The Department of Human Services Office of Child Care and Regulatory Services is offering financial assistance for summer camp fees. Funds are limited and eligibility must be determined. Parents or guardians are invited to contact the Office of Childcare starting Monday, June 9, at 774-0930, ext. 4189 or 4186 on St. Thomas-St John.
ST. THOMAS CAMPS
Handy Spandy Summer Camp 2014
Dates: June 23 to August 1
Location: No. 41 First Avenue, Estate St. Thomas
Ages: 2-14 years old

Cyber Camp VI
Monday, June 9 through Friday, July 11 (9 a.m. to noon)
Ages: incoming 6th to 10th graders
Location: University of the Virgin Islands (room to be announced), St. Thomas campus

Special Services or Focus: Cyber Camp VI is a five-week summer program for incoming 6th to 10th graders who are interested in entering the next round of the Cyber Patriot competition in fall 2014. This program will introduce basic Cyber Security Concepts required for the competition, and participants will have the opportunity to experiment on both Windows and Linux platforms.
Students will also apply game programming in the context of cyber security. Speakers from academia, industries and Sandia National Laboratories will discuss various issues related to cyber security. This program is funded with the support of a grant from the Department of Energy in collaboration with Norfolk State University.

Pistarckle Theater Musical Production Camp: “Aladdin”
June 11, 12 and 13 — the Art of Audition (3:45 to 4:45 p.m.)
June 16 – July 20 “Aladdin” Mondays through Fridays (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) – Families must commit to the entire five weeks
Ages: 9-18 years old
Location: Pistarckle Theater, Tillet Garden, 4126 Anna’s Retreat, St. Thomas
Special Services or Focus: The Musical Theater Production Camp focuses on rehearsing and performing the musical “Aladdin.” The following skills are taught: singing, dancing, acting, speech and, for the first time, technical theater (set design and construction, painting of same, light and sound design, stage management and some costuming).
Morning performances will be held at 10 a.m. on July 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. Morning performance ticket cost $5 (only for children enrolled in other camps). Two mandatory attending chaperones per camp: free admittance. Additional adult tickets are $15. (Book early as the morning performances will fill up quickly). Deadline: Ticket reservations and non-refundable payments must be received by June 30.
Other performances: Opening night: 7 p.m. on Friday, July 18; 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 19; 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. Tickets cost $15 ($10 for children 12 and under).

All Saints Cathedral School Summer Camp
Dates: June 30 through August 1
Location: All Saints Cathedral School, St. Thomas
Ages served: program for 3-5 year-olds/ program for 6-13 year-olds
Special focus: Arts & Crafts, Cultural Dancing, Theater, Rap Sessions, Music, Sports, Cooking, Fine Arts, Fun Academic Enrichment and Field Trips

The Parish of the Cathedral Church of All Saints and Sunny Saints Summer Program
Dates: June 23 to July 25 (8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays)
Ages served: 5 to 14 years-old
Location: The Cathedral of All Saints Parish Hall
Special services or Focus: The Theme: Workshop of Wonders: Imagine and Build With God.
Program Activities: Daily Meditation, Theme Lessons, Language Arts, VI History, Field Trips, Arts & Crafts, Math, Box Gardening, Drama, Governor’s Reading Challenge, Basic Sewing and Cake Decorating
Open Day with exhibition and closing ceremony. Please bring a copy of the child’s immunization card. Breakfast and lunch are provided by the V.I. Department of Education Summer Food Service Program. Registration will take place at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 23.

ST. JOHN CAMPS
Camp Barracuda
Dates: Camp Barracuda will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays
Registration Weeks: June 23 – June 27; June 30 — July 4; July 7– July 11; July 14 – July 18; July 21 – July 25; July 28 – Aug. 1; Aug. 4 – Aug. 8; Aug. 11 – Aug. 16.
Location: Gift Hill School-Lower Campus, St. John
Ages: 3 to 11 years-old
Special Services or Focus: Each day at Camp Barracuda will bring fun and learning with themes including Ocean Day, St. John Day, Nature Day, Creativity/Literacy Day and Trunk Bay Day. Campers will learn about the ocean in the Virgin Islands along with the nature and history we are surrounded by. They will also participate in mind-building activities, keeping them sharp over the summer. Every week campers will practice their swimming and snorkeling skills at Trunk Bay, enjoying much needed fun in the sun. Camp Barracuda is the perfect balance of fun and learning for your child this summer.
