UVI Appoints Elvin R. Fahie Sr. Chief of Security

Oct. 11, 2007 - Elvin R. Fahie Sr. has been appointed chief of security at the University of the Virgin Islands. Fahie, who most recently served as the deputy police chief of the V.I. Police Department for the St. Thomas and Water Island district, assumed his new post on Oct. 1. He retired from the VIPD in June.
As UVI's chief of security, Fahie will be responsible for deterring crime and perceived threats to the university. He is tasked with ensuring that the St. Thomas campus remains safe and secure for UVI's students, staff, faculty, and visitors and for instilling high standards of professionalism, discipline, accountability, respect and efficient service delivery within the UVI security department. He is committed to continued collaboration with the St. Croix campus in the alignment of security operations on both campuses.
"This job is about service -- really being able to serve people in the truest sense," Fahie said.
Fahie reports to Campus Executive Administrator John A. D'Orazio. "Elvin Fahie brings nearly 30 years of experience as a law enforcement officer to UVI," D'Orazio said. "His demonstrated leadership and professionalism, along with a commitment to accountability and service delivery, will have a positive impact on the Security Department and will enhance the safety and security of the UVI St. Thomas Campus."
During his career with the VIPD, Fahie amassed a number of awards for distinguished achievement and also completed extensive law enforcement training courses in a variety of areas, including crime scene procedures, weapon disarming tactics, managing the violent mentally ill and organizational conflict management.
