REPUBLICANS SELECT NEW YORK DELEGATION

April 13, 2004 - Former Sen. Lilliana Belardo de O'Neal will lead a delegation to the Republican National Convention in New York City, Aug. 28 to Sept. 2
Belardo de O'Neal, who ranks seventh in seniority on the Republican National Committee roster, was elected the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Delegation. She is also serving as a member of the National Committee on Arrangements for the Convention.
According to Republican National State Chair, James Oliver, the following delegates and alternates, all of whom are members of the Territorial Committee, will be attending the convention.
Delegates are: Humberto O'Neal, Samuel J. Baptiste, Reuben Fenton, Lawrence T. Boschulte, George Blackhall, April Newland, State Chairman Oliver, and National Committeeman Sen. Holland Redfield, II.
Alternate delegates are: Tracy Pardo de Zela, Manal Missar, Molly Mills-Fuchs, Mytsooko King, Herbert Schoenbohm and Vincen Clendenin Sr.
O'Neal says Fenton, President of the St. Croix Branch of the Republican Party, and King will serve as voting members in the Committee on Credentials.
In the Committee on Platform (Rules and Order of Business), Baptiste, chairman of the 2000 VI Delegation and 2002 Gubernatorial Candidate, and April Newland, will serve. Both have experience serving there.
Boschulte, delegate to the 2000 Convention, and Executive Director Mills-Fuchs will serve in the Permanent Organization Committee:
Oliver and de Zela will serve on the Committee on Resolutions
Sen. Redfield, Humberto O'Neal and Blackhall will work within the Republican Island Caucus on organizing and coordinating activities.
A press release from the local Republican Party says, "The entire delegation plans to act as V.I. goodwill ambassadors during the convention."
The delegation will be working on issues to be included in the platform and other matters regarding the Convention. The delegation chairman has invited VI Department of Tourism to take advantage of this convention by setting up a welcoming booth.
