Labor Investing for Tomorrow With LIFT Internship Program

According to a press release issued on Wednesday by the Acting Commissioner of Labor Catherine Hendry Esq., the V.I. Department of Labor (DOL) is now accepting applications for the Labor Investing for Tomorrow (LIFT) summer internship program.
Now in its 26th year, the LIFT program continues to provide college juniors, seniors and graduate students with meaningful work and internship experience in their chosen career field. Interns can gain college credits as well as acquire hands-on training and the opportunity to network with professionals in their careers.
LIFT interns will be paid $11 (undergraduate) and $12 (graduate) per hour, only for the hours worked (35 hours per week). All interns will be required to participate in a community service activity either individually or as a team project. All participants in the programs will be provided with life skills management and career orientation workshops, workplace preparation skills and occupational safety and health regulation (OSHA) training from DOL.
The eligibility criteria are: Interns must presently be a college junior, senior or a graduate student; must have a minimum GPA of 2.80 on a 4.00 scale; must be between the ages of 18 – 25, inclusive.
The LIFT program is the territory’s most definitive investment in the retention of young talent. Over the last 26 years, it has been instrumental in letting employers and students know that the U.S.V.I. has career opportunities for its best and brightest.
Interested students can request an application from any of the local DOL offices or via e-mail at lift2015@vidol.gov. All completed applications, transcripts and required essays should be submitted to lift2015@vidol.gov by March 20.
If there are any questions, contact DOL offices on St. Thomas at 776-3700 or St. Croix at 773-1994, ext. 2178.
