Gas Prices Anything But Equal on Territory's Three Islands

As usual, a Licensing and Consumer Affairs survey showed gas prices on St. Croix were lower than St. Thomas. And, unsurprisingly, St. John’s gas prices were the highest in the territory.
According to Licensing’s press release, the survey was done Jan. 7 on St. Croix and Jan. 8 on St. Thomas and St. John. Since then, Hovensa increased its rack rates by 4 cents a gallon on regular gas, 5 cents on premium and 6 cents on diesel. Therefore, customers should expect a price increase.
However, Myrtle Barry, who owns E&C gas station on St. John, said that prices won’t rise until the previously-purchased fuel is gone. That’s why the prices at this station were the same Wednesday as they were when the survey was done.
On St. Croix, the cheapest regular self-serve gas was at Royal Service Station with a price of $2.53 a gallon. The cheapest self-service premium gas was at Capital Service Station. The price was $2.55 a gallon.
When it comes to full-serve gas on St. Croix, LaReine Service Station had the cheapest price for both regular and premium. Regular ran $2.89 a gallon and premium was $3.09 a gallon.
On St. Thomas, pumping gas yourself didn’t save any money since both self-service and full-service stations with the cheapest prices were the same.
One Stop and Race Track shared top honors for the cheapest regular self-service gas with a price of $2.95 a gallon. Giant Gas was cheapest for premium self serve at $3.06 a gallon.
The Domino gas stations near Cyril E. King Airport and in Smith Bay had the cheapest regular full-service gas with a price of $2.95 a gallon. The Smith Bay Domino was cheapest for premium full-service gas at $3.06 a gallon.
The Giant station was cheapest for diesel with a price of $2.99 a gallon.
On St. John, Domino Oil only has full-service gas. Its price was the cheapest for both regular and premium, $2.96 and $3.08 respectively.
The island’s only other gas station, E&C in Cruz Bay, charged $3.16 a gallon for regular and $3.24 a gallon for premium. This station sells only self-service gas.
Diesel was $3.17 a gallon at Domino Oil and $3.18 a gallon at E&C.
The Licensing survey didn’t include the price of propane on St. Croix, but it did have figures for St. Thomas and St. John. On St. Thomas, propane runs $71 for a 100-pound tank. Seniors get a price break and pay $64 at Antilles Gas and $63 at St. Thomas Gas.
On St. John, Paradise Gas charges $100 for the 100-pound tank for Cruz Bay residents. Those who live in the Coral Bay area pay $115 for the 100-pound tank.
