The V.I. Division of Property is now issuing 2008 real property tax bills, its second belated property tax bill for this year since the Berne tax lawsuit was settled and a court injunction on property tax bills lifted in January.
Property owners paying their 2008 property tax bills before the Aug. 20 due date will receive early payment discounts, according to a statement from the Office of the Lt. Governor, which oversees property tax collection. Those who pay their 2008 tax bill by Aug. 5 will be entitled to a 5 percent early payment discount and those who pay after the 5th but before Aug. 20 will receive a 2.5 percent discount, according to the Lieutenant Governor’s Office.
The bills become delinquent if not paid by Oct. 20, 2011, and property owners may face late payment fees if they do not pay by Jan. 20, 2012.
The tax bill now lists past due property taxes on the back and also reflects a prepayment credit for
early payment of the 2007 bill, which was issued in February, due Mar. 15 and delinquent if not paid as of May 15.
