Timberwolves Sign V.I. Hoopster Phil Jones

Virgin Islands national basketball team player Phillip “Phil” Jones was among six unrestricted free agents signed by the Minnesota Timberwolves when they finalized the team's 2012-13 training camp roster in September.

Jones, a 6-foot, 10-inch forward/center, has played overseas for the past two years after playing college ball at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He has made stops in Uruguay, Brussels and spent the past season in Romania.

Jones was born in Nashville but spent part of his childhood growing up in U.S. Virgin Islands. As a member of V.I. national team, Jones played at the 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, averaging 8.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in four games.
