The V.I. Police Department has a theme song, "Don't Run, Don't Hide," written by local musicians Fusion Band for use in the government television channel documentary, "V.I. Cops."
I just returned home after a wonderful two week visit to my home on St Croix and was horrified to see what has become of the bypass project. Did we really intend to inflict such a massive scar on our island? Where are the "scenic lookouts" over Christiansted? All I can see is a massive gouge through a hill that is ugly and in-efficient (not surprising, most things on island are). Is there even work progressing on this project or has the money dried up? What an uneccessary tragedy this project has become. It was poorly planned and even more poorly executed and now we are left with a scar that cannot heal. Can't put all the rock and soil back - it looks like some giant, empty taco shell. Is traffic being re-routed? Is it helping anyone? This trip depressed me in general. Shopping in downtown Christiansted is non existent, it feels like a ghost town. The same old tired merchants with the same old tired inventory. Nothing new or exciting. Next time I think I will skip town altogether. I've been coming to St Croix for over 25 years and i swear some of the same merchandise was for sale all those years ago. WHY should anyone come here? Nothing to offer....except our natural beauty.....oh wait, there is that damned Bypass, forget the natural beauty. It has been massively spoiled. So sad
