Former Fire Chief Rudolph Jennings died Friday at Roy L. Schneider Hospital. He was 70.
At Gov. Cyril E. King's request, Jennings returned to St. Thomas in 1975 from New York City, where he had been a fire captain. He remained as chief until his retirement, according to Saturday's Daily News, but returned to Fire Services from 1996 to 1998 as director of training.
Jennings also had taught in the New York public school system and at the Charlotte Amalie High School continuing education department. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service and owned and operated a taxi.
Jennings held a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York and a master's in forensic science from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
He was a member of many organizations, including Knights of Columbus, Rotary, Masons and the Health Ministry Club of St. Andrew's.
The Daily News had no information on funeral services or the cause of death.
