TAXI STRIKES TOURIST

Bystanders told police they heard the screeching of tires and a loud thud Tuesday afternoon, when a taxi struck a pedestrian on the waterfront.
A witness waiting for a bus across the street told the V.I. Independent that the unidentified man, a tourist, had started across the street. A car stopped for him, and he walked in front of the waiting vehicle and into the path of the taxi, which was traveling in the next lane.,
Several witnesses said they saw the man fly into the air.
He was treated at the emergency room at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital, where he was reportedly in stable condition.
