Lt. Gov. Gerard Luz James II has announced that his office will hold a series of public forums on property tax issues beginning Monday, April 12.
The Office of the Tax Assessor, under the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, is responsible for assessing all real property in the territory. Real property tax bills are issued in mid-May and become due June 30.
James said he initiated the forums to answer questions from the public about homestead exemptions and how property values are determined and collected.
"Property taxes make up a substantial portion of the revenues of the Virgin Islands government," James said. "We are holding these forums for the benefit of all property owners, and urge them to attend one on their island."
The schedule for each forum is as follows:
Mon., April 12 6-8 p.m. St. Gerard Hall, Frederiksted, St.Croix
Tues., April 13 6-8 p.m. National Guard Armory, St. Thomas
Wed., April 14 6-8 p.m. Central High School Gym, St. Croix
Thurs., April 15 6-8 p.m. Legislative Conference Room, Cruz Bay, St. John
Mon., April 19 6-8 p.m. American Legion Hall, Christiansted, St.Croix
Tues., April 20 6-8 p.m. Charlotte Amalie High School Auditorium
