VI HUMAN SERVICES WINS FOOD STAMP AWARD

The V.I. Department of Human Services has won a first place trophy for having the lowest error rate in its Food Stamp program of any agency in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
The national average set by the Department of Agriculture is 10.69 percent; the Virgin Islands error rate for fiscal year 1998, was 6.56 percent.
"This is a testament to the cooperation and collaboration of the certification, front-end, issuance, claims, quality control and fraud units," Human Services Commissioner Sedonie Halbert said.
"In spite of the difficulties experienced as a result of Hurricane Georges, relocating and learning a new computerized system, employees worked together ensuring that the rules and regulations of the closely regulated Food Stamp program were followed and that clients received the services needed," she said.
