BORNN TO HEAD TOURISM DEPARTMENT

Michael Bornn, an investment counselor and principal in Seslia Securities, is reportedly Gov. Charles W. Turnbull's choice for tourism commissioner.
Bornn, who is also the president of the V.I. America's Cup Challenge, will become acting tourism commissioner on August 9, according to informed sources, when he returns from Florida, where he is to be married on Saturday.
The tourism post was left empty when the Senate rejected the nomination of Clement "Cain" Magras. Monique Sibilly-Hodge, the assistant commissioner, has been serving as acting commissioner since the Magras rejection, but has said she was not interested in the assignment permanently.
Others in the running with Bornn were Beverly Nicholson, executive director of the St. Thomas-St. John Hotel and Tourism Association, and businessman Mel Plaskett, sources said Wednesday night.
Bornn's nomination must be approved by the Rules Committee and then confirmed by the full Senate.
