Some $25,000 worth of goods were stolen from Delegate to Congress Donna Christian Christensen’s St. Thomas office sometime between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Because of the burglary, Christensen’s Vitraco Park Mall office was closed part of the day Friday. The overnight burglary resulted in the loss of all of the computer and other electronic equipment in the office, Christensen said.
"When my staff reported for work on Friday morning, they found all of our computers, cameras, TV and VCR had been stolen," Christensen said. "It is incredibly disheartening to note that an office that serves the people had been burglarized, in as much as all of the stolen equipment is used in the conduct of the people’s business."
Because the office is that of a federal official, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has primary jurisdiction over the case. FBI investigators have noted that the theft or unauthorized possession of the equipment is a federal offense with federal penalties applicable to anyone caught purchasing or in possession of the equipment.
Stolen were three Compaq desktop computers, an RCA television, a VCR, a Canon camera and a Panasonic camcorder, with a total value of about $25,000, according to Christensen.
Anyone with information about the burglary or sale of the stolen items is asked to call the FBI at 777-3363 or the Safe Streets Task Force at 776-9440.
