MOTHERS AGAINST GUNS EYEING CARROLL CASE

Dear Source:
Mothers Against Guns Inc., founded in 1994, is a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization committed to ending the senseless and brutal acts of gun violence.
We are presently engaged in a membership drive of mothers and others that share our vision. Our mission is clearly defined on our website at www.mothersagainstguns.org.
Last year, I had the pleasure of meeting the fine parents of a murdered young St. Thomas man, Jason Carroll, and it saddens me that the man charged with the killing, Deshaune Harrigan, has not yet been brought to trial.
My heart goes out to the Carrolls and other members of our society who have lost loved ones to such violence. We all must come together and defeat the deadly epidemic of violence and demand that justice be forthright to those who commit such crimes.
Liz Bishop-Goldsmith, founder/president
Mothers Against Guns Inc.
Hollis, N.Y.

Editor's note: Deshaune Harrigan was indicted by a federal grand jury last October on charges including first-degree murder in the shooting death of Jason Carroll on Main Street last May 23. The Source reported on Nov. 14 that District Court Judge Thomas K. Moore had asked V.I. and federal prosecutors and Harrigan's defense attorney to respond by Dec. 8 to issues raised by the V.I. Justice Department asking Territorial Court to dismiss its case against the defendant with prejudice (meaning that it could not be reopened later) in order for the case to be prosecuted in federal court. There has been no subsequent information released regarding the matter.
