HIGHWAY WORK WILL DISRUPT TRAFFIC FOR A MONTH

April 12, 2001 – Repaving work is under way on Weymouth Rhymer Highway (Route 38) east of Charlotte Amalie. Most of the work will be done at night, but during the weekdays of April 23-27, the road will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between the Donoe Road (Route 39) intersection and the entrance to PriceSmart near Fort Mylner. The closing will allow for the installation of pipe culvert road crossings, according to a government press release.
From now through May 11, the highway will be restricted to one lane from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to allow for asphalt paving. Motorists are asked to use extreme caution in the area and to be alert to equipment and construction personnel.
The project is being handled by the Public Works Department and the Federal Highway Administration.
