STABBING RESULTS IN TWO ARRESTS

April 16, 2001 – Two St. Thomas men are facing attempted murder charges after a near fatal stabbing incident in a Nadir parking lot minutes before midnight Saturday. A third suspect is still at large.
Police spokeswoman Annette Raimer said Sunday that Pablo Matos and Felix Jimenez were arrested at the scene and charged in connection with the stabbing of Zephir Buvanet. Buvanet was repeatedly stabbed in the chest and underwent emergency surgery Sunday at the Roy L. Schneider Hospital. His condition could not be learned early Monday morning.
Raimer said investigators have not determined a motive for the stabbing, which attracted a large crowd even as police arrived at the scene. She appealed to anyone with information to contact police detectives at 774-4050 or police emergency at 911.
Bail for each suspect was set at $75,000. Additional details on the incident should be revealed Tuesday when the suspects make their initial court appearance on attempted murder charges.
Raimer gave no further information on the suspects or the victim.
