BRUSH BURNING BANNED

April 19, 2001 – Due to dry weather, Fire Services has announced an immediate ban on burning brush or other materials throughout the territory. Permits for burning that have already been issued will be honored once the ban is lifted.
Firefighters battled an out-of-control brush fire in the New Herrnhut-Bolongo Bay area of St. Thomas much of Tuesday, finally extinquishing it Tuesday night. There was no damage to structures. St. Croix has been plagued with brush fires in recent weeks.
Officials also asked residents to be cautious about disposing of materials that are combustible.
