FIRE GUTS ESTATE GLYNN BUILDING

April 23, 2001 — It took more than a dozen firefighters over an hour to control a blaze that gutted most of an Estate Glynn building housing four businesses.
Fire Services received a report at about 1 p.m. Sunday of the fire at the Friday Enterprises Building on Midland Road, St. Croix Fire Chief Roberto Santos said. A bar, a restaurant, an auto parts store and a church located in the structure were all damaged, the restaurant and parts shop the most extensively, he said.
No major injuries were reported. One person was affected by smoke inhalation, Santos said.
Arson and police investigators were waiting for firefighters to conduct mop-up efforts Sunday afternoon before entering the building to search for evidence as to how the blaze started. Santos declined to speculate on the cause.
Once investigators got a chance to go inside, they would "be able see what may have caused the fire," he said. "We're trying to cool the building down to conduct an investigation."
