May 5, 2001 — All feedback from boats and visiting yacht brokers pointed to a successful 10th annual spring show, Virgin Islands Charteryacht League executive director Susan Chandler said Saturday.
The boat show is designed to allow yacht brokers, both local and off-island, an opportunity to examine each boat and become familiar with the high points and limitations of boats and crew, Chandler said. Thirty boats and almost 60 brokers took part in the event.
"Although the number of boats and brokers is bigger at the fall show," Chandler said, "the smaller number allows the brokers to visit all of the boats showing and spend more time with each boat." The fall show generally draws over one hundred boats and brokers.
Laddie Woods, captain of Sea Nymph, explained the importance of the show: "The brokers are our link to our customers, the actual charters. The impression we make with the brokers is vital because each broker will be speaking with hundreds of potential customers."
The boats in the show varied from sleek new catamarans to classic wooden craft, and featured sail and motor yachts. The show at Crown Bay Marina continues through Sunday, May 6. The public is allowed on the docks to view the boats. However permission to board the boats is limited to participating brokers.
