WOMEN'S JOGGER JAM FRUITFUL

May 7, 2001 – The 19th annual Women's Jogger Jam brought out over 160 female runners, joggers, and walkers to the Fruit Bowl at Wheatley Center Sunday, May 6. Labeled as a "fun run" in support of the Victim Advocates Program, this did not stop competition at the front. Ameerah Bello, a Virgin Islands Olympic runner, passed Grace Tuma, recently returned from the Boston Marathon, in the last hundred yards to win the event. Aniecia Williams of the Bertha C. Bochulte track team finished third.
The event brought out supporters of all ages, with the crowd at the start representing a complete cross section of St. Thomas women. Lynn Falkenthal, director of the Victim Advocate Program, estimated that about $1,300 was raised, primarily through the support of the Fruit Bowl, which donated $5 for every runner crossing the finish line.
This was the 18th year the event was sponsored by the Fruit Bowl, according to Victim Advocate board member Judith Grybowski, who came in third in the run for her age group. Victim Advocates recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
