ADVI AWARDS ENTRIES DUE BY FRIDAY

May 23, 2001 – Friday at 5 p.m. is the deadline for submitting entries in the 2001 Advertising Club of the Virgin Islands "ADVI" awards competition.
The club, which operates in both the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix districts, is the local chapter of the American Advertising Federation. Its annual awards competition is to recognize and reward locally created print and electronic media advertising "demonstrating excellence in creative planning and professional execution," a release states.
Only Ad Club members may enter the competition. In order to be eligible for consideration, entries must have been conceived and have been published or aired in the territory between May 18, 2000, and May 19, 2001.
The numerous categories encompass print, radio, television and computer media and combinations thereof. Judging, by a panel of experienced off-island media professionals, is in accordance with AAF guidelines and is based on concept, copy, graphic design, production quality, overall appearance and, in the case of campaigns, continuity.
There will be one gold award per judging category (assuming the judges feel that an entry scores high enough) and multiple silver awards. The four top honors are the Best of Show Award, for the top-ranked ad in any medium, and the Donald Plantz Awards for the best print, radio and television ads.
Winners will be announced at the Ad Club's annual awards banquet and ceremony, set for Saturday, July 14, at the Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas Resort.
Entries with required paperwork may be dropped off at Mock LeBlanc Brown, Austin Advertising and East End Secretarial Services on St. Thomas; and at the ICC Business Center on St. Croix. For additional information, contact Ad Club president and ADVI Awards Committee chair Norita Lee by calling 775-9112 or e-mailing to noritalee@islands.vi.
