Aug. 7, 2001 – A man and a teen-age youth were shot through the windshield of the car in which they were traveling Tuesday morning on General Gade in the Savan section of downtown Charlotte Amalie.
Three shots were fired through the windshield into the car at approximately 10:28 a.m., according to a Police Department release. Onasis Vanterpool, who was struck once in the neck, was reported in critical condition at Roy Schneider Hospital Tuesday afternoon. The other victim, identified as being 16 years old, was also struck once, in the upper arm, and was under observation at the hospital.
According to Deputy Police Chief Theodore Carty, the two were riding in a green, late-model Toyota Avalon. They had "traveled to Commandant Gade (Garden Street) in a vehicle that had been reported stolen" Monday evening, the release stated.
