CHILD DROWNS AT HOLIDAY BEACH OUTING

Nov. 23, 2001 – A 3-year-old boy drowned Thursday while he was playing with a group of other children during a Thanksgiving Day family outing at Lindqvist Beach.
Ja'Quan Rogers, who lived in Hospital Ground, was pronounced dead after emergency medical technicians rushed him to Roy L. Schneider Hospital about 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Police Chief Jose Garcia said.
According to investigators, Ja'Quan had been playing in the water with a group of other children when a large wave apparently knocked him over and pulled him into the water. He may have been missing for a time before somebody found him floating in the water, Garcia said Friday. Garcia adding that the boy's father came over to see what was going on when he saw a crowd gathered in the water.
Several people tried to resuscitate the boy while an ambulance was on the way. According to police, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital by an emergency room physician.
