GALLERIES STARTING A MONTHLY 'ART WALK'

Dec. 6, 2001 — Six Christiansted art galleries are starting something new this season — joining forces for a monthly evening "art walk."
Exhibition openings, open studios and special art events will be featured. Rather than holding the walk on Friday evening, when many other events are held, the galleries are creating Art Thursday to give art collectors and lovers an evening to focus on the growing gallery community at their leisure.
The first Art Thursday will take place on Dec. 13. The second will be on Jan. 10. Beginning in February, walks will be the first Thursday of each month. Gallery owners hope to continue this event throughout the year; it is planned through May to date.
Campen Gallery and Frame, Christiansted Gallery, Danica Art Gallery, Gallery Gia, Maria Henle Studio, Mark Austin's Fine Art Gallery and Taller Larjas are the stops on the walk, from 5 to 9 p.m.
Special exhibitions and events will be publicized. Those taking part can stroll from gallery to gallery enjoying the fine art — and a complimentary glass of wine with dinner at participating restaurants on an otherwise quiet evening. Artisan shops in the area will be open late as well, with unique jewelry, glass and crafts for sale.
