Dec. 5, 2001 – Sen. Norman Jn Baptiste said Wednesday in a release that he hopes "all high school seniors and juniors, along with their parents," will attend a meeting of his Education Committee Friday afternoon at the Legislature Building on St. Thomas.
The 3 p.m. hearing has the same agenda as one the committee held Monday on St. Croix: to look into the impending loss of accreditation by the territory's three public schools that currently are accredited, complaints about block scheduling of classes, and money owed by the Education Department to textbook vendors and other service providers.
According to the release, those invited to testify include Education Commissioner Ruby Simmonds and her "support staff"; Dr. Jorge Galiber, Board of Education chair; Tyrone Molyneaux and Vernelle deLagarde, presidents of the St. Croix and St. Thomas-St. John teachers unions, respectively; and the senior class presidents from Charlotte Amalie and Ivanna Eudora Kean High Schools.
