April 18, 2002- "Friday Night Alternative" has become quite the place for the local talent pool of musicians to make itself seen and heard.
With house keyboardist/vocalist Sally Smith off on special assignment for a few weeks gearing up for a Pistarckle Theater fund raiser show, Marty Beechler has been standing in as host, and pianist Freddie Rabuse has been dropping by to play, FNA founder Corinne Van Rensselaer reports.
Others who've put in appearances recently at the weekly live-music-and-more gathering on the Marin Deck at American Yacht Harbor include Lorren Caffee, Jules Phillips, jazz pianist Jerry Harris and vocalist Joan Bennett-Williams.
One of the things that keeps everyone coming back, Van Rensselaer thinks, is that "Friday Night Alternative" attracts not only the best talent but also "the best audience in the islands."
To form your own opinion in either regard, settle in on the deck outside Van Rensselaer's Color of Joy art gallery and boutique between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday. Admission is free, and so are the wine, cheese, crackers and company. To learn more, call 775-4020.
