April 29, 2002 – The Ruby Rutnik Scholarship Fund scholarship applications are now available for the 2002-2003 school year.
Two St. John females will benefit from the community's outstanding support of the scholarship fund and the 6th annual Ruby Rutnik Memorial Softball Tournament held in Cruz Bay the weekend of April 5th.
This tournament and the scholarship honor Ruby, who distinguished herself as a champion "windmill" pitcher for Antilles School and as a scholar at American University in Washington, D.C., where she died in a car accident in December 1996.
These renewable $2,500 annual awards are offered to qualifying St. John females who are high school graduates or college undergraduates in good standing, whose families or selves have resided on St. John for five years or more, who can demonstrate financial need and who are accepted by an accredited college or university. It is not necessary to be a first-year student.
Qualifying applicants from previous years are encouraged to reapply.
Applications can be picked up at Connections in Cruz Bay, Sts. Peter and Paul High School, Eudora Kean High School, All Saints School and Antilles School in St. Thomas. For additional information please call 693-8069.
The deadline for submission is May 15, 2002. Notice will be given on or before June 5, 2002.
