May 13, 2002 – This is National Hospital Week, and it's being observed by Roy L. Schneider Hospital with a variety of special events and programs, including an official welcome to the facility's new chief executive officer, Rodney E. Miller.
The week's activities kicked off Monday with a "spiritual enhancement program" in the morning in the hospital lobby. A reception to welcome Miller was held in the evening, also in the lobby, and from 9 p.m. until, it was "Employees Karaoke Night" at Bluebeard's Castle Hotel.
On Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon, an open house will be held in the hospital lobby, where the various departments of the medical facility will have displays set up.
On Wednesday at 10 a.m., again in the lobby, there will be an employee talent show followed by the presentation of service award pins.
Thursday will bring judging to select the Best Office and the Best Department in the hospital.
Friday has been designated "Nursing Appreciation Day" and will feature flowers and pin-ons for nurses and a cake sale, among other things.
On Saturday, employes and their families are invited to a Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Port Authority Park and the new Water Park at Lindbergh Bay.
Miller's arrival comes nine months after the departure of the hospital's last chief executive, Eugene Woods. Miller most recently was administrator for cardiovascular/medicine services at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, a facility which serves southeastern Georgia and southern South Carolina.
As CEO of Schneider Hospital, Miller also will oversee the Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center on St. John, which falls under the hospital's administration.
