BODY IDENTIFIED AS EDWIN 'MILLER' VELAQUEZ

June 9, 2002 – The decomposed body found last Sunday morning by two boys walking their dog on Carlton Beach has been identified as 37-year-old Edwin "Miller" Velasquez.
Medical Examiner Dr. William Fogarty said Velasquez died of a gunshot wound to the head, according to published news reports.
Deputy Police Chief Angel Santos had said last Monday that the body was found in a shallow grave but could not be identified until Fogarty did an autopsy. A family member who asked to remain anonymous told the Source that Velasquez's mother confirmed his identification Thursday.
Velasquez was reported missing on June 1 by his girlfriend, Alicia Sanes, after he failed to return home the preceding Thursday night. Police issued an all-points bulletin and located his burned Acura Legend when they responded to reports of a bush fire near Campo Rico beach.
The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking anyone with information to call 911 or 778-2211. Attempts to reach a Police Department spokesperson over the weekend were unsuccessful.
