COSMIC NEWS: MOON MANSIONS AND QUEEN VENUS

NEW MOON IN CANCER
July 10, 2002 – The New Moon of July 10 highlights a party of planets in the water sign Cancer. In addition to the Sun and Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Mars dwell in the house of the Crab. This monthly cycle, then, carries the nurturing, protective qualities of this most sensitive sign. Home and family are central themes. Tribes gather, clans come together, as we "come home" to whatever we feel that call.
The New Moon is the most powerful point of the month, as it colors the energy for the next 27-28 days. In the many cultures that base their calendar on the Moon – Chinese, Hindu, Jewish, Tibetan among others – the flow of the Moon, its cycles and phases, guided the inner and outer tides. The Sun sign and modern monthly calendars sometimes lose touch with that innate, biological rhythm, as the major beginnings in those calendars are relatively arbitrary and shift. The Moon rules the sign Cancer, so it is especially important to tune in to our closest cosmic reflector.
MOON MANSIONS
The 27- or 28-day moon cycle can be tracked by small clusters of stars that marked its place each night of the cycle. The fastest hand on the original, celestial clock, the Moon visited a different mansion each night. The Hindus used to say that the man-in-the-moon was visiting his various wives. In Hindu astrology it is more important what your Moon sign is than your Sun sign. The Arabs, Chinese and Tibetans also use these Moon asterisms.
The mansion of this New Moon is called Punarvasu, consisting of the two twin stars of Gemini. Because of the slow precession of the equinoxes over a long cycle of 26,000 years, the signs of the zodiac don't match up with the constellations they were named for. So, we have the New Moon of Cancer aligned with the stars of Gemini. This can be confusing! It all works out and makes sense. The Moon mansions have their own unique interpretations, with special gods presiding over each.
Punarvasu is an auspicious mansion ruled by the great mother goddess Aditi- very appropriate for our sign Cancer. See how it works out! Aditi tends the ground so healthy seeds can grow – that means your projects for this month. Abundance flows with the blessing of Aditi. Jupiter is one of the rulers of this moon mansion, so its presence here strengthens the growth potential of this time. The primary symbol is a quiver of arrows, representing the ability to target successful projects, for making life changes in career or residence. It is a time for renewal, for creativity and inspiration!
The SABIAN SYMBOL for the New Moon at 19 degrees Cancer is:
A FRAGILE YOUNG WOMAN OF ARISTOCRATIC BLOOD MARRIES AN EAGER YOUTH OF THE NEW ORDER This image suggests renewal and stimulation from infusing new enthusiasm into traditions of the past. Inspiration comes from forming new connections and looking toward the future. The old way will no longer work.
VENUS agrees that the new and exciting is the way to go. Last month Venus was communing with dreamy Neptune. She is awake and full of fire in the sign Leo energized by Uranus, the Awakener. At the very last degree of Leo, Venus is conjunct the bright star Regulus, the Star of Queens, summoning female leadership. Look in the western sky after sunset and see Venus, the brightest diamond, crowned by the royal star.
Just about to move into Virgo, Venus combines the wisdom of the Virgo goddess with the raw power and creativity of Leo the Lion. She becomes the Sphinx, standing at the gateway to the mysteries. Tame those fears of change, let your heart shine forth and find the courage to create the next level of your life as we move into a new month.
