RAINS EXPECTED TO TRAIL WEAK TROPICAL WAVE

July 23, 2002 – A weak tropical wave passing through the area Tuesday morning should be gone by the afternoon, according to Rafael Mojica, who heads National Weather Service activities in San Juan.
"It should give the Virgin Islands rainfall and a chance of thunderstorms in the morning," he said.
But then, "quite a bit of moisture" trailing behind the tropical wave will bring rain showers on Wednesday and Thursday, Mojica said, and Wednesday also should see hazy skies. "It will also be breezy today through Thursday," he added.
A strong tropical wave that just popped off the west coast of Africa bears watching, Mojica said, but it is too soon to tell whether it will develop into something more serious. He said the system should take about a week to reach the Virgin Islands area.
Mojica pointed out that this is the most active part of hurricane season, with the peak coming Sept. 10. "It's not a matter of how many; it's a matter of just one coming in your direction," he said. He urged residents to make preparations ahead of time so that, should a storm hit, they'll be ready.
