BILLY BOHLKE, EARTHLA ARTHUR TAKE FIRSTS IN 5K

Sept. 2, 2002 – The family of Dale Goodwin, including her mother and children, were on hand to cheer on nearly a dozen runners and walkers who participated in the 18th Labor Day 5K Road Race that honored her memory.
Dale Goodwin was the coach of the St. Croix Track Club, which was made up mostly of her children. As members of the club, the children often won medals in a range of age categories in track, cross-country and road races.
Billy Bohlke was unchallenged as he ran the race for the first time and took first place overall in a time of 16 minutes and 36 seconds. Earlier in the year, Bohlke set a Virgin Islands record for the distance on the track by running 15:15 in the Southeastern Conference Championships. The record was previously held by Marlon Williams, with 15:31 in the Barcelona Olympics.
Barrymore Berley was second in 21:37; Troyson Raymond was third in 22:19;
Alfred Anduze was fourth in 24:47; Errol Chichester was fifth in 26:43; Luke
Frederick was seventh in 27:09; Jackson George was eight 52:49.
Earthla Arthur took first place for females in the race with a time of 23:30. Jo Shim was second in 24:48; Barbara Knight was third in 51:58 and Krystal Diamond was fourth in 52:48.
The next race on the V.I. Pace Runners Calendar is the 4-H Cross-Country
Series on October 9 at the University of the Virgin Islands, followed by the
Coastweeks Beach Relay on October 12 at Ha Penny Beach.
