COSMIC NEWS: DAILY DRAGONS

MUNDANE MONTH OF VIRGO
Sept. 56, 2002 – A common sense earth sign, Virgo gets down to business, attending to the essential mundane details of life. An often-maligned sign, Virgo's symbol is the Great Goddess who blesses our daily life with the grace of her cosmic spirit. She arranges things just so, taking pleasure in crafting a perfect moment, meal or task. Virgo quietly makes life more worth living and has a fine sense of timing in relation to the organic rhythm of nature.
The NEW MOON
on September 6 is in 15 degrees Virgo, deep at work in the center of the sign, getting things get done. Attention to work is primary — back to school, setting schedules, preparing for a new season. Of course we celebrate Labor Day in the month of Virgo! The action planet MARS is still close to the Sun, now in Virgo — nose to the grindstone time.
PLUTO at the DRAGON TAIL,
the south node of the Moon that indicates eclipse points, is maintaining the intensity of these transformational times. Ongoing for several months, this underworld dragon challenges the New Moon, suggesting a pivotal time in our collective experience. Remember that Pluto in Sagittarius is a crisis of belief. If we rise toward universal truths, we can more easily move through the mundane disasters (dis=separate; aster=stars) that loom like the devouring dragons. The potential is to bring forward positive collective vision; it's a necessity.
The Plutonic power evokes the cyclic phases of creation/destruction that are an inherent part of life, often resisted by the consciousness of those who would deny death. The tantric paths of the East sought life-exalting powers through the destructive aspect of the Great Goddess, who eats the filth and mulch of life in order to revitalize Earth. Engaging in taboo activities that transcend the social order, the tantric sought to release the powerful life force that is blocked by constricting moral codes. This kind of activity is to be approached carefuully, with guidance. Otherwise disaster is unleashed, like the atomic bomb or 9-11, led by Sekhmet, the Egyptian lion goddess who gets drunk and out of control from the taste of blood.
In bringing these images forward, I am not recommending such activities, but suggesting an alternate perspective from which to consider (con=with; sider=stars) the dangerous edge of the powers at work at such a pivotal time. A creative response to these forces is one that does not deny this side of life, but one that engages with a vision of renewal that sustains us through the death throes of the old order. Find and shine light into the personal place where your demons are holding you back from embracing the joy that is rapidly vibrating in increased frequencies. Influencing the Earthy New Moon in Virgo, I believe we will feel and hear the strong voice of Earth energies and her creatures in this Moon cycle.
AN INCREASINGLY ACTIVE VENUS
reminds us to enjoy our work and find satisfaction in our routines. Just after the New Moon, Venus moves out of her own sign of Libra into Scorpio, where she will linger for the rest of the year. Recently in good relationship to both Uranus, the change agent, and Saturn, the status quo reality, Venus has been overseeing a dialogue between revolutionary and conservative elements. Now the balance of Libra comes down on one side or the other with the rush of Scorpionic passion. Where are you drawn? Venus in Scorpio stirs up intense feelings, strong attractions and repulsions. The more we trust our feelings and follow our bliss, the more richly we engage in relationship, the better our read on the motivations of others, the more fully we invite satisfaction and pleasure into our lives.
As we move further into September, Venus engages dynamically with Jupiter in Leo on one side and Neptune in Aquarius on the other. This may feel like a pull between indulgence and self-sacrifice, honor and dishonor as our collective ideals are questioned and the motivations of leaders become increasingly questionable. Charismatic leaders may come forward. Let's read their lips carefully to see what they are promising. There is an inflation in political rhetoric, as well as the economy. Venus rules our values, reflected by economic trends. Neptune can suggest mass delusion on one extreme, with an equally strong enhancement of spiritual values on the other. The call for self-scrutiny is strong, as we weed out the downers in our own magnetic field and allow the clarity of the higher mind to flow through more steadily.
JUPITER and NEPTUNE face off across the sky, trumpeting forth the question of religious philosophy — a big question and quest these days as we seek the Truth on both mundane and spiritual levels. Is there a difference between those two realms? Not for Virgo, whose cosmic task is to bring the spiritual into the mundane. This is an especially compelling task for the Pluto-in-Virgo generation, born 1957-1972 — and they are right in the thick of sorting this out now. I believe this sacred task is one of the meanings of 9-11, something to contemplate as we come to the anniversary of that momentous day.
The Sabian symbol image for the New Moon is very Venusian:
A FINE LACE HANDKERCHIEF, RARE PERFUME PLACED NEAR A MIRROR
This image holds a quality of fine taste and feminine reflection that describes well the task that Venus puts before us this month. These are items used in the evocation of Erzulie, the Voudoun goddess of love. The appreciation of beauty in life, the well-crafted textures and scents that enhance life, enliven the senses, create special memories. Moment by moment we can choose such things.
