LOCAL BELL RINGING PLANNED FOR WORLD AIDS DAY

Nov. 21, 2002 – The 2002 World AIDS Day Committee of St. Thomas/St. John invites all faith communities that have bells at their place of worship to ring them 20 times at 6:30 p.m. on World AIDS Day, Dec. 1.
The 20 figure signifies the number of years that have passed since 1982, when the first case of AIDS was diagnosed in the Virgin Islands, according to Pat Odoms, committee chair.
She said the bell ringing across the islands will close a day of encouraging the faith communities to respond to people suffering from HIV and AIDS.
For additional information, contact Millie Carpenter at 776-5909 or Odoms at 776-1321 or 643-5757.
