MODEL AGENCY FOCUSING ON LOCAL TALENT, NEEDS

April 25, 2003 – After gaining experience in the field of fashion and modeling, Ginny Edwards has brought her knowledge home to share with other young men and women in the territory.
Edwards recently opened her own modeling agency, Starline Models. The agency, the first of its kind in the territory, is geared to cater to the needs of local advertising agencies, photographers and businesses by providing them with capable models.
"The idea came because I have lots of experience in this field," Edwards said. "There was a need for this sort of business here, and I thought I should do it."
The St. Thomian with her love of fashion began her modeling career at age 15. She has worked in New York, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Europe.
Edwards attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City where she majored in photography. She worked with several major modeling agencies in New York including Elite, New York Models and Boss Models doing model development, testing and scouting.
She also worked as an editorial assistant for FLAUNT, a fashion magazine in Los Angeles, before returning to St. Thomas last year to work as photo and fashion editor of Flair Magazine. Now she has branched out to open her own business.
"Through Starline Models, I hope to fill some gaps in our small market by providing local models for local advertising, as well as for visiting clients," Edwards stated in a release. "We will give international clients a reason to shoot in the Virgin Islands."
Starline Models now represents 21 individuals, many of whom have already been featured in commercials, advertising brochures and publications throughout the territory.
Edwards is looking for more models and asks that anyone interested in a career in the field call her at 998-2049 or stop by the Flair office on Norre Gade, where she is currently based.
