May 15, 2003 – The University of the Virgin Islands Bulletin Board issued today has these announcements:
Commencement Exercises Set May 17 on St. Thomas, May 18 on St. Croix
UVI's Spring 2003 commencement exercises are scheduled for Saturday, May 17, on the St. Thomas campus and for Sunday, May 18, on the St. Croix campus. The St. Thomas ceremonies will take place at 7 p.m. at the Sports and Fitness Center. St. Croix's commencement will be held at 4:30 p.m. on the campus grounds.
Admission Period for Fall 2003 Classes Extended to May 30
The admission period for students wishing to enroll in Fall 2003 classes at UVI has been extended for one month to Friday, May 30. Undergraduate and graduate applications are being accepted. UVI offers associate's, bachelor's and master's degrees in business, mathematics, the physical and biological sciences, social sciences, education, nursing and the humanities.
Prospective students should submit an admissions application to the admissions office on either campus. Along with the application, an official high school or college transcript is required. SAT or ACT scores should be included. CXC, GCE or CAPE results are required if applicable. A $20 application fee will be charged. Direct questions to 693-1150 on St. Thomas or 692-4158 on St. Croix. Marine Environmental Educators Workshop Set May 16
A Workshop on Marine Environmental Education is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 16, at UVI's MacLean Marine Science Center on the St. Thomas campus. The workshop, which is open to the general public, is designed to provide educational materials to educators, representatives from government and nongovernmental agencies and tour operators. Final "Dollars and Sense" Seminar Scheduled May 21 on St. Thomas
The New Image Foundation in collaboration with the UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and First Bank will present the final in a series of "Dollars and Sense" seminars at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 21. The presenter will be attorney Linda M. Baxter, P.C. Her topic will be estate planning, focusing on wills, deeds and trusts. This will take place at the SBDC Training Facility, Suite 720, Nisky Center. Call 777-8883 for more information and to register.
Grant Writing Workshops Offered by WNET
A workshop titled "Grant Writing: Preparing a Competitive Proposal" will be offered on St. Thomas and St. Croix in conjunction with this month's Women's Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) Roundtable meetings. The St. Thomas meeting is scheduled for noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at UVI's Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Training Facility at Nisky Center, Suite 720. The St. Croix session will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, at the SBDC in Sunshine Mall, Frederiksted.
WNET is a national program sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration. It is cosponsored in the Virgin Islands by New Image Foundation and UVI SBDC. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. A light lunch is included. For details call 777-8883.
SBDC Seminar on Developing Resumes Set May 28 on St. Croix
The UVI Small Business Development Center will conduct a seminar entitled "Stop Keeping Yourself A Secret: Developing a Resume That Will Work For You" from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the UVI-SBDC Training Center located in the Sunshine Mall lower level, St. Croix. Safe Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Workshop Scheduled for May 30
A safe diving and hyperbaric medicine workshop is scheduled from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 30, at UVI's MacLean Marine Science Center on the St. Thomas campus. The workshop is open to the general public, and is targeted toward dive operators, recreational divers and fishermen. Presenters will include representatives from the hyperbaric medicine program at Centro Medico Hospital in Puerto Rico and from the University of Puerto Rico's Sea Grant Program. The workshop is free but pre-registration is requested. For pre-registration or more information contact UVI Marine Advisor Mayra Suárez-Vélez at 693-1392.
